Report: Audit of Moldova's debt to Gazprom may bring no results
CHISINAU, Jan 17 (PRIME) -- An international audit of Moldova's historical debt to Gazprom may not bring about significant results, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita told channel TV8 late on Monday.
"There is an ongoing audit that must not only describe the debt, but explain how this debt was accumulated. For instance, the debt that existed before 1998, few documents remain since that time. A situation when audit will be unable to arrive to a definite conclusion is possible," Gavrilita said.
Gazprom said in 2022 that it reserved the right to discontinue gas shipments to Moldova due to violation of the terms of signing of a deal regulating historical debt to the company. The government signed a contract to audit it in August with Wikborg Rein Advokatfirma and Forensic Risk Alliance&Co. A report is expected by February.
